Taking the contrast, graininess and black and white aesthetic has been well used for countess DIY aesthetic promotions (Punk flyers and the like) as a point of inspiration, my exploration of the Xerox/Photocopier centered on 2 ideas, one what is it about the Xerox/Photocopier machine that made it different then a camera, the second to explore ways that transform the way it was used. The first really centered on the fact that the Xerox machine's optical device is a moving object the captures only a sliver of information at a time and the whole is later combined to form the image (unlike a camera which captures a whole scene at a time). Also, Xerox/Photocopier's are normally used to create copies of preexisting images, photos, graphics - here it is used to capture a realtime event - rendering each image unique. The following are a series that uses the Xerox machine to capture a realtime event (the movement of tableware) on its flatbed and take advantage of the uniqueness of this Machines workings.
