Resources Ltd.

Solo, 2020
Accompaniment, 2020
Duet, 2020

As a series, Resources Ltd provides an alternate (to prevailing capitalist logic) imagining of consumer products (here in the form of dining room chairs) in light of diminishing resources (i.e. shortage of wood). Rather than hide the shortage by increasing prices or using less material (read thinner cuts), Resource Ltd. visually exposes the scarcity by removing elements from the chairs (a leg or two, a backrest) not only highlighting the material loss but also shifting them into a collaborative relationship with their end-users, requiring active participation between person(s) and object. A sitter’s leg provides the fourth leg for Solo, two sitters are required to balance each other in Duet, and an extended arm from a friend completes the backrest for the sitter in Accompaniment. In shifting these objects from passive utility to cooperative participation, Resource Ltd. reminds us of our fragile relation to natural resources and the need for our collaborative role in obtaining harmony.
